WOLFORD
cdamos@attbi.com posted by Dawn Amos, May 20, 2003
I am trying to find a birth record for my great-grandfather, Calvin WOLFORD.
Family "legend" says he was born in what is now West Virginia in October, 1858.
This is based, I think, solely on his death certificate. However, Calvin and
his mother are in Cadiz, Harrison County, in the 1860 census, and his birth
place is given as Ohio. I can't find either of them in the 1870 census, but in
the 1880 census in Iowa (where they moved), as well as the 1900, 1910, 1920, and
1930 census records in Nebraska (where he married, had children, and died) his
birth place is also given as Ohio.
Does anyone have any suggestions as
to where I might go to find an 1858 birth record? Cal's father was not around
in 1860. We don't know what happened to him. Until I finally received a copy
of Cal's marriage application last year, I didn't even have a name for the
father. If I can find a birth record for Cal, I'm hoping that I can confirm the
first name of his father. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Some surnames there are BOON (BOONE), SEARS, WHEALDON, SPECK (my grandparents),
maybe KINSEY. There are 50 to 75 burials. I am researching for more information
so that I can build a better history of that gravesite and the land which
contains the cemetery (formerly Quaker). Have collected bits and pieces of
information, including paragraphs from our family's 1900 history, but no one has
yet put it all together in one document. My goal is to publish an article to
contain all the bits and pieces."
